An introduction to Transition Plans: what are they, why do you need one and what does a good one look like?

This course is designed for anyone involved in the creation or execution of a Transition Plan, whether your company already has one or is creating one for the first time.

It will cover the key elements of a Transition Plan and how it applies to an investment manager, to enable you to develop and execute an effective Transition Plan supported by all stakeholders.

The focus will be on ensuring that the Plan is useful for the organisation in achieving its targets, and will look at what makes a successful plan and what mistakes investment managers might make, using case studies.

SPEAKERS

James Hulse, Hindsight Consultancy
James founded Hindsight Consultancy in 2016 to advise investors, banks, companies and civil society on climate change and natural capital. Projects have included:

  • designing new environmental policies for banks and investors,
  • writing guides for financial institutions on how to tackle deforestation in their portfolios,
  • helping a credit ratings agency to take account of climate change in their credit ratings, 
  • lead drafter for the asset management working group of the UK’s Transition Plan Taskforce.

James was previously Head of Investor Initiatives and Head of Forests at CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project). Before that, he ran the Forest Footprint Disclosure Project at Oxford-based charity Global Canopy, working with investors and companies to tackle commodity-related deforestation. From 1991 until 2008, James worked in the financial markets as a trader and fund manager. In 2005, he was co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Cumulus Asset Management, a hedge fund looking at weather and climate-related themes. He set up and managed the first ever climate hedge fund in 2008.
