Gillian Painter, Head of Membership and Engine, The Investment Association
As Head of Membership and Engine, Gillian is a senior member of the IA Enterprises management team. Engine is the IA’s Innovation hub and FinTech accelerator. Since its launch in October 2019, Gillian has managed the growth of Engine which now encompasses an ecosystem of over 130 firms, innovator programmes, as well as a regional co-working hub in Birmingham and an international programme. Engine is focused on innovation and transformation for the investment management and wealth sectors providing an extensive programme of thought leadership, resources and connectivity. Gillian has a strong experience in technology having worked in technical and operational roles for global IT and telecom firms.

 

Mark Young, Partner, Covington
Mark Young is an experienced tech regulatory lawyer and a vice-chair of Covington’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. He advises major global companies on their most challenging data privacy compliance matters and investigations. Mark also leads on EMEA cybersecurity matters at the firm. In these contexts, he has worked closely with some of the world’s leading technology and life sciences companies and other multinationals.
Mark has been recognized for several years in Chambers UK as "a trusted adviser - practical, results-oriented and an expert in the field;" "fast, thorough and responsive;" "extremely pragmatic in advice on risk;" “provides thoughtful, strategic guidance and is a pleasure to work with;” and has "great insight into the regulators." According to the most recent edition (2024), "He's extremely technologically sophisticated and advises on true issues of first impression, particularly in the field of AI."

 

Christina Leo, Divisional Director, Financial Lines Group
With 20 years’ insurance and financial institution industry experience, Christina joined Howden in 2022 placing and advising clients on cyber insurance with a particular focus on Financial Institutions. Prior to that, Christina spent the past seven years at Goldman Sachs in Insurance Risk Management and Operational Risk. Christina now brings this unique experience to Howden’s clients to help them size and stress test their Cyber insurance programmes.

 

Matt Hawley, CISO, Janus Henderson Investors
Matt Hawley is CISO at Janus Henderson Investors, a position he has held since 2024. He is responsible for cyber security, information and records retention and data privacy across the firm. Prior to joining the firm, he held CISO roles at Insight Investment and at The Crown Estate. Before that, he was head of cyber operations at Nationwide Building Society. Earlier, Matt was a cyber senior manager at PwC, where he contributed significantly to cybersecurity across various business sectors by defining security policies for the Central Bank of Kuwait, serving as interim CISO for a UKFTSE100 insurer and a global law firm, and working with BAE Systems AI as the global delivery manager to enhance their advanced cyber threat capabilities.
Matt served as a senior RAF Officer for over 23 years, which included operating as programme director, responsible for large-scale secure CIS projects in the Middle East.
Matt has a BEng(Hons) degree in Electronic Systems Engineering and an MSc in the Design of Information Systems from Cranfield University. He also has an executive MBA from University of Bath School of Management.

 

James King, Senior Policy Adviser, The Investment Association
James King is the Senior Policy Adviser at the Investment Association responsible for operational resilience, cyber resilience and technology.
